Deinterlace:
The process of converting an interlaced video sequence into a progressive sequence, while performing calculations to remove artifacts that commonly occur in this kind of conversion.
Infrared (IR) Receiver:
Hardware that sends information from your infrared remote control to your PC by receiving and decoding signals. Generally, the receiver outputs some type of code to uniquely identify the infrared signal it receives. This code is then used to convert signals from your remote control into a format your PC can understand and recognize.
Infrared (IR) Transmitter:
Hardware that sends information from your infrared remote control to your cable box or satellite receiver. Through an infrared signal, a specific code pattern is transmitted. From this code, infrared signals are sent to your cable box or satellite receiver, usually to change the channel for recording.
Instant Replay TV:
View "instant replays" while watching live video signal.
This is a function of Timeshifting.
Integrated Programming Guide:
Television program listings integrated into SageTV software using data
that is stored locally. A web browser is not required to access
data on a remote server in order to view television listings.
Intelligent Recording and Scheduling:
SageTV uses proprietary algorithms to determine your viewing habits and automatically record shows of interests. The more you watch and record shows through SageTV, the more the system learns. These shows are recorded around other shows you specify as one-touch recordings or favorite recordings. This option can also be disabled for users that use most of their space for user specified recordings.
MPEG-2 Encoding Card:
Compresses audio/video data through digitization into a MPEG-2 format. This card does not use the CPU to perform MPEG-2 compression; the hardware on the capture card performs the calculations. Therefore, significantly less resource from the PC is used for this process.
MPEG-2 Compression:
Incoming audio/video stream is compressed at a rate of approximately 100:1 so it can be written to a disk for storage and retrieval. MPEG-2 Compression is a worldwide standard and is also used for DVD video.
One-touch Recording:
Schedule recordings of a show in the Integrated Programming Guide with the touch of a single button.
Pause Live TV:
'Pause" live video signal the same way you pause a recorded video.
This is a function of Timeshifting.
PCI/AGP bus graphics card with overlay:
PCI/AGP refers to the respective slot on your PC's motherboard where the graphics card is installed. Overlay is a technique for transferring video data from an incoming source to the graphics processor in a high-speed manner. Nearly all graphics cards sold in the past few years have overlay capabilities.
Personal Video Recorder (PVR):
Digital Video Recorder with advanced functionality such as an Integrated Programming Guide, One-Touch Recording, and the SageTV exclusive, Intelligent Recording. PVR software compresses incoming video streams from a cable or satellite provider and writes it to your PC hard drive. From there you can playback files at your convenience.
Timeshifting:
View television at a time other than when it is broadcast. SageTV is always recording—creating a "buffer" of the video you just viewed. Video signal is digitally stored on a hard drive while simultaneously reading and writing data. Therefore, SageTV is able to play video back at a later time even while recording something else.
CVD/SVCD:
Standard quality setting used for CVDs and Super Video CDs which can be read by most DVD players.
